Amur Falcon beat defending champions in opening match

Kohima, March 6 (EMN): The 3rd edition of Morning Premier League (MPL) got underway on Monday, March 6 at Seikhazou ground, D-Khel Kohima Village, Kohima, with Amur Falcon FC playing against the defending champions Merhülietsa Sunrisers in the inaugural match.
The match was evenly contested in the first half with both the teams scurrying hard to find an opener. Towards the end of the first half, the Amur Falcons FC scored two quick successive goals. A goal from Falcon’s Benlo in the 43rd minute and another from Mele in the 44th minute left the Sunrisers dejected as they left the field for a break.The second half saw a resurgent Sunrisers as Asat scored from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute but their hope was denied when Roko of Amur Falcon scored a long ranger in the 64th minute. Amur Falcon won the match 3-1.
Earlier, a short program was held where the defending champions of MPL 2016, Sunrisers handed over the MPL trophy to MPL president Loben Jamir while Pastor Jonathan Messen of PowerComm led the prayer along with the 10 teams competing in this year’s MPL.
The Morning Premier League is organised by Morning Football Association.
