Dimapur, March 23

Following complaints by the public concerning theft of GI pipes and other useful iron items in the town, the district administration of Mon has banned the sale and transportation of iron scrape in the district till further orders.
This order does not cover collection of empty bottles, gunny bags, and unused plastic items. The issuing authority of the permits for collection of said scrap materials are to strictly regulate collection.
All police check gates/posts have been directed to strictly enforce the order. Defaulters are to be booked under relevant section of law, the administration stated.
Metal recycling and scrapping is a lucrative business for many, especially in tough economic times. While it’s a dirty and possibly dangerous job, high metal prices can dictate large financial returns. A scrapping business can end up making money in two major ways: Some people will pay you to haul away junk which you can then break down and sell to buyers.
