MOKOKCHUNG — The Mokokchung Photography Club (MPC) held a get-together-cum- induction programme at Hotel Magnus in Alongmen Ward, Mokokchung town on Friday.

Limalenden Longkumer, editor of Mokokchung Times and founding member of MPC, delivered a keynote address on the theme “MPC, What Next?” He highlighted the importance of a photography club in a small town like Mokokchung, emphasising how such a club fosters a sense of community by bringing together individuals with a shared interest in photography.

He noted that MPC serves as a platform for budding photographers to showcase their work, gain recognition and develop their skills.

He emphasised the vital role played by photographers in preserving local heritage and promoting tourism.

“By capturing Mokokchung’s history, events and landscapes, photographers contribute to both preserving the town’s cultural heritage for future generations and attracting visitors,” he said.

Longkumer also pointed out that photography can help boost local tourism by highlighting the town’s scenic beauty and unique culture.

The speaker outlined how MPC could help enhance the photography skills of its members through workshops and peer feedback. He suggested hosting photo contests, exhibitions and community events to enrich the town’s cultural life.

Longkumer also emphasised the importance of networking and collaboration among club members, which could lead to new friendships, partnerships and creative projects. He noted that photography can be used to tell compelling stories of everyday life in Mokokchung, offering a unique perspective on the town’s residents.

To keep MPC thriving, Longkumer proposed initiatives such as regular meetings, workshops, photo walks, contests and member-led activities. He stressed the need for a strong social media presence and feedback sessions to maintain momentum and engage the community.

Longkumer further shared insight on the livelihood opportunities photography provides, covering fields such as wedding and event photography, photojournalism, commercial and stock photography, teaching workshops and photo editing services. He encouraged members to explore those avenues for professional growth.

It may be mentioned that MPC was formed by a group of likeminded photographers in 2011. The new team of MPC would be led by Takumeren as convener and Moamongba as secretary.
