Mokokchung, Sep. 18 (EMN): Mokokchung District Badminton Association (MDBA) will be organising the Mokokchung Inter Club Badminton Champion 2017 at Indoor Stadium, Mokokchung from September 28-30.
Briefing the media persons about the coming tourney, the Convener of the Organising Committee Chubanungba, informed that ten teams from Chuchuyimpang Village, Chungtia Village, Khensa Village, Impur, Mopungchuket village, Longsa Village and Mokokchung will be participating in the tourney. He added with the success of last year’s Mokokchung Inter Club Badminton Championship this year the clubs have increased to three.
They also stated that MDBA objects are: to popularise and promote badminton as a professional sport in the district, to share the responsibility to nurture the young badminton players and also generate revenue for the MDBA.
The matches shall be played in the order of U-13 Boys’ Single, Men’s Double, U-15Girls’ Single, veteran 35+ Men’s Double, U-17 Boys’ Singles, veteran 45+ Men’s Double and Junior Mixed Doubles.
The organiser has also left reservations for hiring three players for each team. The players can be hired from in and outside the state.
The organisers also informed that because of the year’s successful session the junior players have improved tremendously and have secured medals both at state and regional levels. They also added that Nagaland Badminton Association has sent a probable list of players to represent the state where 30 percent of the junior players are from Mokokchung.
Further, they informed that the sponsored of this year tourney are Tata Trust (North East Initiative Development Agencies) and NLC India Ltd under CSR.
Total prize worth Rs one lakh will be given away to the winners of various categories. The Chief Umpire of the Tourney will be Bendang Chang, National Umpire.
