Mokokchung bans sale and use of firecrackers till Jan. 31, 2021
Mokokchung, Nov. 13 (EMN): The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir, has notified that sale and use of firecrackers has been banned in Mokokchung district till January 31 next year.
A notification from the deputy commissioner stated that the ban has been enforced in the district in exercise of the power conferred under section 22 (2) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
It supplemented that banning of firecrackers in the state is in view of the increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state and the arrival of winter season, during which elderly, children, person with co-morbidities and others can develop respiratory problems.
It further stated that bursting of the firecrackers releases harmful chemical which has a severe impact on the respiratory health of the vulnerable group and such pollution further may prove hazardous for recovered as well as active Covid-19 patients.
In this connection, the state government has considered the potentially harmful effects of the bursting of firecrackers and has directed to prohibit the sale and use of firecrackers in all parts of the state from November 10 to January 31, 2021, in the public interest, it stated.
The update further warned that any person found violating the order would be punishable under the relevant provision of the Disaster Management Act 2005 and other relevant laws.
