Mobile Skill Morung trainings for rural women conclude
DIMAPUR — The Department of Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (ESD&E), Kohima, organised the culmination programme of ‘skill development for rural women through Mobile Skill Morung’ at council hall, Zubza, Kohima, on August 2.
The initiative, conducted through the Mobile Skill Morung (vehicles), aimed to bring training directly to villages, ensuring broader access and inclusivity, according to a DIPR report.
Joint Director of ESD&E, Zubemo Tsanglao, speaking on the occasion, highlighted that, with the training centres located in Kohima and Dimapur, many people cannot afford to travel for training.
Therefore, he said, by bringing the training to the villages, the government ensures broader access and inclusivity.
He also noted that the training programme previously covered essential trades such as construction, plumbing, and wiring, while the latest phase focused specifically on tailoring, a skill set designed to empower women.
He expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of women in the programme and encouraged them to utilise the tailoring kits provided by the government. He added that the kits were intended to help participants earn a livelihood, support their communities, and pass their skills on to the younger generation.
Tsanglao also mentioned that the department plans to maintain close contact with the villages to monitor the implementation of the skills learnt and the economic benefits achieved. He said the department would report these findings to the government and based on the success and satisfaction reflected in these reports, there could be further assistance and expansion of the programme in the future.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and toolkits to all the trainees.
Meanwhile, in a similar event, the two-week training on skill development for rural women through the Mobile Skill Morung culminated in Suruhuto town on Saturday. The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Toiho Yepthomi.
In his speech, Yepthomi assured that this training was only the start and that additional programmes would be introduced soon. He committed to offering various skill development opportunities in the near future and presented certificates and sewing machines to all 25 trainees.
