DIMAPUR — Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (MLA), A Pongshi Phom, inaugurated the Nangthu Morung in Pongo village under Longleng district on October 24.
A DIPR report stated that Pongshi Phom, who was the special guest, unveiled the monolith and followed with a dedicatory prayer said by B Chingmei, pastor of Pongo Baptist Church.
Speaking on the occasion, Pongshi Phom underscored the significance of education in the preservation of culture and heritage saying, “Education serves as a means to safeguard culture and heritage.”
While reminding that an integrated educational approach is indispensable in communicating the value of cultural heritage, he urged upon the public to promote cultural heritage through education.
Also speaking on the occasion, the extra assistant commissioner (EAC), Dr. Samuel Akho Konyak, called upon the younger generation to recognise the value and necessity of cultural preservation.
“Regardless of its scale, a society’s cultural heritage and identity are sources of pride. The present generation should hold steadfast to the existing community and pass it on to the succeeding generations for sustained prosperity,” Dr. Konyak said.
Short speeches were also delivered by T Lakba, chairman of Pongo village; YL Anba, chairman of Hongnyu village; and P Kangyong, 2nd GB. They have shared valuable insights and their vision for the community.
The youth of Nangthu under the guidance of L Wannu and T Taukam presented a musical performance and L Chingben, teacher, presented an overview of the morung construction,
The welcome address was delivered by Y Ashau Phom, chairman of the morung construction committee, while the programme was chaired by T Laknyei Phom abd concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by H Aniam.
