DIMAPUR — The Red Ribbon Club of Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima, conducted an HIV/AIDS awareness programme on September 20 on the theme “Silence equals death: Speak out, get tested, save lives” at its premises.
According to a press release, the event featured Aosangla Imchen, a counsellor from the Mobile Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre in Kohima, as the resource person. She was accompanied by her team and link workers from the Kripa Foundation.
On the occasion, Imchen enlightened the student teachers about various modes of HIV and AIDS transmission and emphasised the importance of seeking timely treatment. She encouraged them to break free from stigma and take a proactive stance in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
To further promote awareness, a slogan competition was organised. The prize money for the competition was sponsored by the Link Worker Scheme of the Kripa Foundation.
Following the programme, a free counselling and testing session for HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B and C was conducted. A total of 63 student teachers availed themselves of the service.
International Peace Day
Meanwhile, the current event and ecological clubs of MITE celebrated International Peace Day on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. H L Gangte, the vice principal, emphasised the importance of peace and encouraged the student-teachers to embrace it in their personal and professional lives.
The student-teachers also participated in various activities, including debates, dramas, and a met gala.
