Dimapur, Feb. 21: Unidentified miscreants opened fire at the private residence of Zaremo Kikon, resident of Darogapathar village, Dimapur, on the night of February 20.
According to the village council secretary K Ado Bizo, Zaremo Kikon was out of station at the time of the incident. His son and daughter (both students) were the only persons present at home during the incident.
Quoting Zaremo’s son, the village council secretary said some unidentified persons opened fire at their residence at around 11:30 pm on Monday night and fled the scene. Later, the miscreants returned at around 2 a.m. and resorted to kicking their main gate and fled before they could be identified.
One empty shell suspected to be of AK-Rifle was found outside the gate. Kikon is a businessman based in Wokha district and usually resides most of the time in Wokha as per the village council secretary. There was no history of intimidation or extortion, said the Secretary. Meanwhile, Darogapathar Village Council (DVC) has condemned the incident at the house of its bonafide resident, Zaremo Kikon on February 20. DVC chairman Nungtokmeren Jamir and the secretary K Ado Bizo have condemned the act perpetrated upon its resident stating such incident creates fear psychosis and uncertainty particularly amongst the villagers. Such acts, they stated, are detrimental to the village council’s aspirations for peaceful and harmonious co-existence.
The council appealed not to create any problems within Darogapathar village jurisdiction. It stated that ‘disputes if any may be resolved through goodwill and understanding’ towards which the DVC is willing to play a proactive role for the betterment of the society.
In another statement, Lotha Union Purana Bazaar Area (LUPBA) has strongly condemned the incident in which some unknown miscreants fired a gun shot at the residence of its former chairman Zaremo Kikon at Darogapathar.
The incident happened on February 20 at around 11:30 midnight in which the bullet shot pierced an iron gate. The union chairman, M Yanthan and the secretary Stephen Tsenthungo said the issue was of serious matter amounting an attempt to murder.
While condemning the incident in strongest term, the union requested the concerned department to act with all seriousness so that such uncivilised act do not occur again in the near future.
