MH-10 Kohima lift Luke Sasong memorial volleyball trophy

MH-10 Kohima beat Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) ‘A in the final match to lift 12th edition of the Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2022 organised by the Luke Sasong Sporting Association under the aegis of Mangmetong Students’ Union at Multi-Sports Complex on Friday.

MH-10, Kohima outclassed Changtongya Volleyball Association in the 15th Imchaba Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy in September 2022.

Both the teams showed aggressive offenses in the beginning of the first set. However Changtongya were pinned down at 18 – 25 in the first set. They took their last time-out at 18 – 19 but could not recover and the first set which went in favour of MH 10.

In the second set, MH-10 outplayed CVA again.  CVA blocks proved futile as MH-10 displayed their spiking prowess. CVA took time-out but could not retaliate and lost the set by 19-25.

Entering the third set, CVA came back strong and edged past MH 10 (25- 20). MH-10 players started displaying lack of coordination plus many of their spikes were either blocked or dug by the rival players.

In the fourth set, MH 10 took control of the game, quickly building a 18-15 and ended with 25-21. 

The champions of the tournament MH-10 walked away with certificates and a cash award of INR. 70,000 while runners up Changtongya Volleyball Association ‘A’ were presented with certificates and cash award of INR 40,000.

The losing semi finalists’ Kumlong Sporting Association ‘A’ and Longkhum Students’ Union were presented with certificates and cash prize of INR 10,000 each.

Individual prizes were awarded to the ‘Best Setter’ (Tongpangsunep from MH-10), ‘Best Spiker’( Reshitemjen from MH-10) and Man of the tournament (Imkongsanen of Changtongya Volleyball Association ‘A’).

Earlier, Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly graced the closing ceremony as the guest of honour. He highlighted the life of Late Luke Sasong and stated that what he could achieve in 27 years of his life is something one should emulate.

Stressing on the tournament’s theme, “Unity through sports,” the Speaker went on to urge the players to play a fair game so that unity can prevail.
