Mezhür’s basketball teams net champions’ titles in Kohima district tournament
KOHIMA — Both boys’ and girls’ teams of Mezhür Higher Secondary School Kohima emerged champions in their respective categories in the 1st inter-high school basketball tournament for Kohima district held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Hr. Secondary school, LerieKohima from October 2 to the 4th.
At the finals played on Friday, Mezhür Higher Secondary School (girls’ team) beat Don Bosco HSS by a score of 14-7 in the final.
This was followed by an intense match between Mezhür Higher Secondary School and Fernwood HSS in the boys’ final. Mezhür HSS won by one point after the final score remained at 25-24.
Both the champion teams pocketed INR 30,000 each along with trophy and citation. Meanwhile, runners-up Fernwood HSS (boys’ team) and Don Bosco HSS (girls) received INR 20,000 each.
Most valuable players were awarded to AkatoluPhesao (girl) and Vitsosier (boys) from Mezhür HSS.
Most promising team award went to Fernwood HSS and PM Shri GMS D Khel.
Nagaland Police Central School (boys) and St Mary’s Cathedral Higher Seconday School (girls) won the best disciplined team award.
Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant and Director of Youth Resource and Sports, KethosituoSekhose graced the closing ceremony.
Organised by the Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA) in collaboration with the BetiBachaoBetiPadhao, the tournament aims to provide a platform to young talents and nurture them to grow and compete in a bigger arena.
