Shillong, May 16 : Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), a militant outfit of Meghalaya, on Sunday threatened to start war like situation in the state. Stating that Meghalaya High Court and Secretariat – the two political institutions of the state have been trying to segregate Khasi community by taking away their rights, the outfit warned the two to be its prime targets.
In a statement issued on Sunday, HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said, “Our prime targets are to blow up the High Court and the Secretariat because the two political institutions are trying to segregate our Hynñiewtrep community by taking away our rights,” adding, “We have earlier declared that we have coordinated with other groups of Northeast to pursue our agenda because we were provoked by the state government, which has failed to pay heed to our offer for unilateral ceasefire.”

The outfit also blamed the Mukul Sangma led state government for showing lack of seriousness on the unilateral ceasefire offer. “We had even decided not to boycott this year’s Independence Day celebrations but the Government wasn’t at all serious,” Nongtraw said adding, “The Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has to shoulder the responsibility for compelling us to take the path of violence. We shall further intensify our programmes, and give headache to the Government as well as the police.”
The outfit cautioned that if any casualty takes place in Khasi and Jaintia hills, the state government shall be solely responsible. “We have decided to take up the path of violence again,” it said adding “the government’s attitude towards the HNLC has detonated our determinations and we shall not remain in patience anymore.”
