Medical college in hill district to be made functional soon, says Manipur CM

Imphal, May 6 (EMN): The only medical college in the hill districts of Manipur, which is presently under construction in Churachandpur district, will be inaugurated and made functional as part of the ‘100 Action Points for First 100 Days’ of the present government.
This was disclosed by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, while attending a felicitation programme, organised by Zomi Council at YPA General Headquarters Hall in Churachandpur, 65 km south of Imphal on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, he continued that completion of the college main building will take some time. He also informed that INR 115 crore has already been sanctioned under the North East Road Construction Development Scheme for the construction of the Henglep road.
Further highlighting a series of initiatives taken up for the district as part of the 100 Days Programme, he said, ‘Without the support of the people, the government cannot do anything’.
Biren singh said under the Jal Jeevan Mission, efforts are on to provide potable water to every household, digging of tube-well at 70 places including 50 in Churachandpur and 20 in Pherzawl has been targeted to be completed within the 100 Days programme.
He further informed that transit accommodation for doctors, nurses and teachers; amusement park; solar power system for the Churachandpur District Hospital to ensure 24×7 power supply and a model Anganwadi centre will be inaugurated among others.
He said that amusement parks are being constructed in seven districts out of which, the parks in Ukhrul, Senapati and Churachandpur will be inaugurated within the 100 Days programme.
Making a clarion call for all to join in the war against drugs to save our young children, the chief minister said, “We have to fight together against drugs, poppy plantation and drug smuggling.”
The chief minister also applauded Zomi Mothers’ Association for their contribution to the society, and said that the mothers’ organisation has done a lot by supporting the fight in the past.
Ministers Thounaojam Basanta (Education and Law and Legislative Affairs), Kashim Vashum (Transport and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary), MLAs LM Khaute (Churachandpur), Vungzagin Valte (Thanlon), Letzamang Haokip (Henglep), Chinlunthang (Singngat), former MLA Ginsuanhau and chairman, Zomi Council John K Ngaihte also attended the felicitation programme.
