Mokokchung, Oct. 13 (EMN): Defending champions Telongjem FC stunned Sparious FC 10-0 at the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2022 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Thursday.

In a magnificent display Telongjem striker Yhunshalo Kemp started his campaign with a double hat-trick while Moasunep scored a brace. Suponglemba and Temjenwapang Kichu grabbed one goal each for Telongjem.

Early strikes from Moasunep in the 3rd minute of the game followed by Suponglemba in the 15th minutes and Yhunshalo Kemp’s goal haul saw Telongem taking a commanding 6-0 lead in the first half.

Sparious FC were no way near the level  of Telongjem game-play and fell into total disarray as playmaker Kakhevi Assumi destroyed the defence line making precision assists to his team mates.

Having scored four goals, Kemp etched his name again on the scoresheet ten minutes into the second half. Replacement Temjenwapang Kichu also wasted no time making his mark, heading home with his first touch in the 54th minute.

Moasunep got his brace in the 62nd minute and later Kemp completed his double hat-trick celebration in the 63rd minute to seal the fate of Sparious FC.

In the second match of the day, Sports Society Soyim (SSS) beat Legendary Yeomanly Misfit (LYM) 3 – 0 to move up to the knock-out round from Pool A.

A brace from Akangkokba and Shilusoang’s strike helped SSS gain the crucial three points.

SSS started the game with a pressing game and continued to build pressure on their opponents.   SSS’s pressure tactic was finally rewarded when Shilusoang struck in the 15th minute to take the lead.

The second goal for SSS came through the boots of Akangkokba.

After the breather, both sides continued to push for advantage. In the dying minutes of the game, Akangkokba got his real chance and struck his brace in the 70th minute to end the match 3-0 in SSS favour.
