DIMAPUR — The Pi (Math) Club of Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama, organised a “math fest” on Saturday, August 26, in the school premises, in which seventy students from classes 8 to 10 from Govt. High School, Jakhama, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Kigwema, and Loyola Higher Secondary School took part.
According to an update from the school, the programme was planned and conducted by class 10 students Kevineino Sale, Keleseho Sophie, Lolengoto Kirha, and Asato Phira, and the club staff coordinator provided the necessary guidance.
Each school prepared two students for the elocution competition and two for the poster competition. The judges for these competitions were Kekhrieneinuo (asst. teacher, GHS Jakhama), Vikedo Ziitso (asst. teacher, GHSS Kigwema), Hosal Khieya, and Vikekho Yakhro.
Vikhozonu Tetso (GHS Jakhama), Jeeya (Loyola), and Visabeno Thorie (Loyola) took first, second, and third place in the elocution competition, respectively.
The first prize in the poster competition went to Neiphrekho Kuotso and Kevizekho Seleyi (GHSS Kigwema), while the second and third prizes went to Nothongonu Khatiitso and Vizhonu We-o (Loyola) and Nokethozo Khariitso and Kevizeto Kirha (GHS Jakhama), respectively.
There were also group activities such as “solve & show,” “Morse code breaker,” “puzzle time,” “art gallery space manager,” and “math quiz.” For each of these activities, students were divided into different groups, encouraging collaboration while maintaining a competitive spirit. Prizes were given to the first and second place groups in each of these activities.
Fr. Pravin Solanki SJ, principal of Loyola Higher Secondary School, gave away the prizes on the occasion and encouraged the students to take greater interest in Mathematics, which he said is also known as the mother of all sciences. He commended the Pi Club student leaders for organising the event and bringing students of different schools together to celebrate mathematics.
Hosal Kheiya said it was heartening to see the students from different schools putting their heads together and working out solutions to problems and puzzles.
He observed that the students were very creative in the posters they prepared but needed to improve their verbal articulation of their ideas. He commended the students for participating in all the activities.
