DIMAPUR — The second phase of mass social work will be conducted across Wokha district, along with the rest of the districts in Nagaland, on November 22.

According to an order issued by DC Wokha, Vineet Kumar, this is in pursuance of the Cabinet decision dated October 9, 2024, and the video conference with the Commissioner of Nagaland on November 19, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming 25th Hornbill Festival.

All individuals, as well as public and private institutions, have been directed to organise and participate in the social work within their respective institutions/jurisdictions from 7:00 am onwards.

During the drive, all building materials stacked on the roadsides should be immediately removed. Latrines and pigsties discharging waste onto the roadsides should be removed or demolished. Shops in the town should have proper signboards and may also have proper lighting at night.

Further, damaged or defaced signage should be redone. Repainting of shops and business establishments is encouraged. Villages along the highways (both national and state) should clear the vegetation along the road stretch within their respective jurisdictions.

The Urban Development department, in coordination with Wokha Town Council and Bhandari Town Council, shall take steps to ensure proper sanitation along the roads, ensure that meat shops are hygienic, and prevent contamination by houseflies, insects, etc.

They will also initiate a special drive to clean the towns of plastic waste. This drive may extend beyond the social work days and be carried out in mission mode to ensure that Wokha district achieves plastic-free status by November 30, 2024.

All departments are to ensure cleanliness in their respective government buildings and properties by carrying out social work. The respective area administrative officers will monitor the work in their areas and submit a report upon completion of the social work.
