Dimapur, June 29 (EMN):
A day after officials of the National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland state resigned en masse, NPP national secretary Sushil Huidrom, on Wednesday, said that NPP central does not take such activity from the ‘handful and so-called NPP (members) seriously’.

The party’s national secretary was addressing a press conference at the party office in Dimapur.

Huidrom, while maintaining that the dissident group was inactive and not contributing to the party, said that there was no confusion regarding their self claimed “mass resignation”. He affirmed that the party will be ‘all out’ in the forthcoming Nagaland Legislative Election 2023.

NPP state president Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema remarked that those who have resigned from the party were hovering to deteriorate the party and were ‘power mongers’ who were after the president’s post.

“Only a handful of districts which also did not have any membership resigned. Also their resignations were expected as they were not doing any activity for the party. The group was also not letting the party work while they were simply a stay order for the party,” Sema maintained.

Sema alleged that there was a signature campaign last November to remove him from the president post. He also said that their claim of 80% was a ‘big joke’. Further, he termed the officials’ resignation as “an obstacle removed” while stating that the party can now work in peace and were the ‘happiest’ with their resignation.

The state party president said that Limanuksung Longkumer, who had been given the post of general secretary (Organisation) and additionally given in-charge of Karbi Anglong, never brought any worthwhile changes to the party’s growth and progress.

“In fact the condition of the party in Karbi Anglong further dwindled under his charge whereby the party had to face an embarrassing loss in both the Assam Assembly election as well as the recently concluded Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Election”, Sema alleged.

Former Minister and senior advisor of the party, Deo Nukhu, said that the group that resigned were inactive in the party, who did not contribute any good. He said they were also on the ‘verge of expulsion’ so the mass resignation was just a claim made by them. He expressed confidence that the party will have new faces that will represent the party in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
