Marathon race marks International Youth Day
DIMAPUR — Commemorating the International Youth Day, the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Dimapur, on August 12 organised a marathon race under the tagline ‘Red Run’ for Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts beginning from Patkai Bridge Junction covering a distance of 5 km towards Seithekema.
The marathon race was flagged off by Tepulezonu Tetso, district sports officer, Dimapur, for all three districts.
Report stated that Orenthung Ngullie, DIS, highlighted about the event and the importance of creating awareness on HIV and AIDS in colleges. He informed that the marathon race was an initiative to engage young boys and girls in healthy lifestyle and maintain physical fitness.
Also speaking on the occasion, the EAC of Seithekema, Kevethito Rose, acknowledged the NSACS for organising the event by engaging young boys and girls to create awareness on HIV and AIDS.
He also congratulated all the participating colleges and winners of the marathon race and encouraged the students to be the ambassador of HIV and AIDS in colleges.
Report also stated that as part of Independence Day celebration, the administration distributed the Indian flags.
Altogether, 160 students from RRC college of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts took part in the marathon.
The winners of all 3 districts were presented with a certificate and cash prize of INR 5000 to the first winners, INR 3000 to the second winners and INR 2000 to the third winners in both the male and female categories.
Winners of Dimapur district in the male category are Nahlei Konyak from Immanuel College, Nagalong T Tikhir from Public College and Kansham George from Salesian College, while the winners in the female category are Songmo Khiamniungan from Immanuel College, Lito V Sumi from Pranabananda Women’s College and Lenthula Yim from Unity College.
The winners from Chümoukedima district in the male category are Vipito B Chophy from Patkai Christian College, Tomong T Yimchunger from NEISSR and Jochuhi Kent from Patkai Christian College, while the winners in the female category are Neikethonuo Mepfhuo, Mayine Lohru and Avishe, all from Patkai Christian College.
The winners from Niuland district in the male category are Vikalu T Jamir, Nikito S Achumi and Atito Sumi, all from Platinum College, while the winners in female category are Heli K Shohe from Platinum College, Disipila Sangtam from C-Edge College and Keneinguno from C-Edge College.
In a related programme, the Mokokchung District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU/ DISHA), also organised the second edition of ‘Red Run’ marathon race for the Red Ribbon Club members in Mokokchung town on August 12.
The chief medical officer (CMO) of Mokokchung, Dr. Kibangkumba, who flagged off the race from Imlong Place, stressed the importance of collective action to prevent HIV/AIDS epidemic.
The marathon was aimed at engaging young people in healthy life style, promote safe sexual behavior and increase awareness about HIV/AIDS service, an update from CMO stated.
The event saw participation of 52 students from four colleges.
The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe, gave away the awards to the female winners, while the CMO, Dr. Kibangkumba gave away the awards to male winners.
The winners were presented with certificate and cash prize of INR 5000, INR 3000 and INR 2000 each in both male and female categories.
The winners in the male category are Muchiu S, Besoyemjong and Mulai, all from Fazl Ali College, while the winners in the female category are Imnatola Lonchar, Imchaienla Longchar, both from Fazl Ali College, and Mucham L from Mokokchung College of Teacher Education.
NEISSR commemorates International Youth Day
The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), observed International Youth Day on the theme “From clicks to progress: youth digital pathways for sustainable development.”
The programme featured a series of insightful addresses and discussions on the role of youth in shaping a sustainable future.
Liki K Zhimo and Fr. Jinto Jose, MSW 3rd semester students spoke on the occasion.
Dr. Fr. CP Anto, principal of NEISSR, delivered a special message addressing both the positive and negative aspects of youth. He referred to the National Youth Policy 2014 and discussed the issue of unemployment among youth in Nagaland and the northeastern region of India.
He further encouraged the students to engage in youth development and emphasised the importance of drafting comprehensive youth policies.
