All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) on Sunday announced to look into the matter of the redundant hiking of the price of essential commodities in the north eastern border state.
AMSU secretary general Manjit Sarangthem speaking to media here at their head office in Imphal on Sunday, asked the shop keepers in and around Imphal town to display the stock position and prices of the essential items available in the respective shops as done in other cities within three days time.The student body will launch a price rise drive from Thursday onwards.Urging the concerned state authority to do needful in the interest of the common people, AMSU secretary general also demanded revival of price fixation committee (PFC) to monitor the price rise in the trouble torn state. The state has PFC sometime in early nineties, according to Manjit.
Stating that AMSU will not remain as a silent spectator over the recent price rise of the essential commodities in the state, Manjit also demanded functioning of the chamber of commerce with the active participation of the local traders.
Besides the state authority is also need to function the Food Safety unit of the state so that the food adulteration could be checked properly.He also reminded the recent issue of banning Maggi noodles across the country.
The students’ body will look into the matter of hiking price of essential commodities particularly the food grains such as rice,potato, onion, dal etc.He said potato is sold at Rs 30 plus against Rs 15-16,Onion at Rs 80 against Rs 35,Masoor dal at Rs 150 against Rs 110,Aahar(Mairongbi) at Rs 160 against 120,Kangtak at Rs 60 against Rs 35 per kilogram not to speak of availability of the government supply (super fine) rice in the market at a higher rate.
It shows that the government is joining hands with the business community in the ongoing price hike episode, he alleged. AMSU leader also expressed the need to implement Packaged commodities Act 1977 and Manipur Consumers protection Rules in the interest of the general public.
