Manipur reports 656 new Covid-19 cases; 13 fatalities

Manipur reported 656 new Covid-19 positive cases, when 4,817 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the state’s tally to 70,954 with decreasing 5,970 active cases, according to a press release from the Health department.

The new positive cases were detected from 16 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (216), Imphal East (105) and Bishnupur(101) districts. 

On the other hand, with 603 new recoveries including 287 from home isolation facilities in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases in Manipur reached 63,809, the release said. Thus Manipur’s recovery rate stands at 89.93 percent.

Out of total recovered cases, 60,028 are from the general population while the remaining 3,781 are Central security personnel, the release said.

Meanwhile the state reported total fatalities of 13 Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours taking the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 1175, it added. The victims are from Imphal West (five), Imphal East (three), Thoubal (two), Bishnupur (one), Chandel (one) and Kakching (one). They expired at five health centres in the state. As of Friday, 9,06,450 persons were tested for Covid-19 while 6,96,555 persons were screened at the entry points of the state at the various testing centres in the state, it said.

So far, the state has given 6,82,110 doses of Covid vaccines including 5,97,479 first and 84,631 second doses to the residents.

Till date, the first dose of Covishield vaccine was given to 1,77,387 people between 45-59 years and 1,00,841 people above 60 years besides 1,87,529 people between 18-44 years.

The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated for both the first and second doses of Covishield vaccine is 65,102 while 1,51,249 frontline workers received both doses. Meanwhile, Manipur police detained 161 persons across the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of INR 57,050 was also collected as fine.
