Manipur Police seizes drugs worth more than INR 25 lakh

Imphal, April 9 (EMN): A special commando unit of the Manipur Police department arrested a person with more than INR 25 lakh approx. worth of illegal drugs, according to police sources.

The team, led by Subadar Bebekananda Singh who is officer in-charge special commandos unit Khabeisoi, made the seizure during routine frisking and checking, near a waiting shed in Kangpokpi district around 8 pm on Friday night.

The arrested person was identified as Paomilen Haokip (35) of Moreh Ward number 9 in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.

On checking his black polythene bag, the team found nine caps of suspected brown sugar, 19 suspected opium (kani) concealed inside a container, INR 2700 in cash, nine mobile handsets including five keypad mobile phones and four android mobile phones, 20 packets of suspected of W/Y tablet, each package containing 200 pieces (total 4000 tablets),and six containers containing substances suspected to be brown sugar.

The seized items were worth approximately around INR 25,02,500 in the international market. The arrested person was handed over to Sapormeina Police Station for further necessary legal action, police said.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, based on reliable input, a police commando unit of Kakching district police in Manipur, detected and seized 18 gold bars weighing 2988 gram from the possession of a driver of an Eeco Van.

The incident happened when the Commando unit of Kakching led by Subedar Ksh Prakash under the overall supervision of District SP Shrey Vats during frisking and checking operation at Pallel check-post, about 45 km south of Imphal in Kakching district around 10:30 am on Thursday, police said.
