Manipur planning to construct INR 3500 crore-worth concrete roads in Imphal area

IMPHAL — Manipur is planning to construct INR 3500 crore-worth concrete roads for the first time in Imphal and greater Imphal area soon.

“Tender has been completed in this regard,” said Chief Minister N Biren Singh while addressing the formal inaugural function of private-run Babina Multispecialty Hospital in the outskirts of Imphal town on Sunday.

“The step has been taken up in view of the frequent impact on roads as the state receives rainfall for seven months annually,” he said.

Biren also revealed a cable car will also be introduced at Ibudhou Marjing Hill in Heingang for the first time.

Ibudou Marjing Hill houses Marjing polo statue, the World’s tallest equestrian statue of a polo player.

To attract tourists, a project costing around INR 126 crore will be developed in and around Loktak, the largest freshwater lake in the Northeast India, besides INR 600 crore-worth Lamphelpat Rejuvenation Project and around INR 36 crore for beautification of water bodies in Waithoum which are being developed, he added.

On the government’s initiatives for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), he said that around 6061 inmates have been provided skilled training under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, and process is on to provide jobs to around 2500 of them.

He also lauded Babina Group for providing humane service to the people and creating job opportunities to many.

Health and Family Welfare minister Dr. S Ranjan Singh, Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Babina Group Dr. Th Dhabali Singh, former minister Dr. M Nara and senior officials of NEDFi were present at the inaugural programme.
