IMPHAL — The total number of electors in Manipur as per the latest draft electoral rolls stands at 20,08,432 showing a net decrease of 49,422 electors from the final electoral roll in 2023, which was 20,57,854.
Disclosing this while addressing a press conference here today, chief electoral officer (CEO) of Manipur, Pradeep Kumar Jha, informed that the gender ratio as per the draft electoral rolls 2024 stands at 1066 as compared to 1068 in final electoral rolls, 2023, published on January 5 this year. The elector population ratio was recorded at 55.04% as compared to 57.35% in the previous rolls.
Polling stations have also been rationalised during pre-revision period by district election officers (DEO) through field verification by ERO and in consultation with political parties. No new polling station was created while 17 polling stations have been shifted to better locations. The total number of polling stations remained at 2,955, he added.
He informed that special drives would also be undertaken to facilitate internally displaced people to enroll their names in the electoral rolls. Special campaigns would be conducted in relief camps to facilitate enrolment of the eligible voters and make the people aware of the importance of voting, he added.
Presently, nearly 50,000 people are staying in more than 300 relief camps in the state.
CEO said that general public/ electors and the representatives of political parties could inspect/ verify the draft photo electoral rolls at the offices of the electoral registration officers/ assistant electoral registration officers and with all the booth level officers (BLO). Besides, the CEO informed that they could also visit website https://ceomanipur.nic.in to inspect the draft photo electoral rolls.
Informing that the special summary revision with respect to January 1, 2024, as the qualifying date starts from today with the publication of draft electoral roll, he said the disposal of claims and objections has been set on December 26, 2023, and the final publication of electoral roll would be on January 5, 2024.
He informed that one could enroll, delete, make corrections and apply for shifting of his/ her name in the electoral roll during the period.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Manipur accompanied by additional CEO, N Praveen Singh and joint CEO, Ramananda Nongmeikapam, also flagged off a mobile publicity/ awareness van and also administered pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of the country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections and to vote in every election fearlessly.
