Manipur Governor inaugurates Cultural Festival 2023

Imphal, Jan. 12 (EMN): Manipur Governor La Ganesan visited the district headquarters of the newly created Pherzawl district on Thursday to inaugurate a three-day Unau Suopui Cultural Festival 2023 held at Parbung Ground, about 300 km away from Imphal.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Ganesan shared that it is gratifying to note that 26 Cultural Troupes including Aimol, Anal, Chiru, Hmar, Lamkang and many others are participating in the mega cultural festival.

He said, although the communities originated from Ruong-Le-Vaisuo, popularly known as Tipaimukh, they are scattered in Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, etc.

Stating that these communities share similarities in their language, songs, dances, indigenous games and sports, he said they have been harmoniously living together for the last more than four centuries.

Expecting that such a cultural festival will certainly provide a platform to meet all the tribes who have already been settled down at different places of the Northeast, he said, the festival symbolises peace, harmony and unity rising above the barriers of caste, creed or religion.

Let the spirit of Ruong-Le-Vaisuo Unau Suopui Cultural Festival embrace one and all to strengthen the social fabric more than ever and bring prosperity to all the communities irrespective of caste, creed and religion in the State, he added after unveiling a monolith at the festival site.

Later interacting with the District Level Officers (DLOs), Representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), women leaders, he said, the state government is doing its best in many sectors of development adding that although Pherzawl has been lagging behind in comparison to other districts of the state, but assured to bring all round development.

Issues pertaining to healthcare, education, connectivity, banking etc. should be taken care of and all concerned authorities should also pay their attention for the welfare of the people, he said.

On shortage of manpower and infrastructure in the district he said he will ask the concerned officials to make necessary arrangements at the earliest. He assured the people that he will write to the concerned departments and will also ask the Chief Minister to take necessary steps in the best interest of the people of the district.

CSOs, Women Leaders submitted memoranda to the Governor during the interaction programme. Earlier, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at the helipad at Pherzawl District Headquarter by Deputy Commissioner Huanlianlal Guite of Pherzawl, SP Ghanashyam Sharma, Chairman Dr. L Fimate of Core Committee of the Festival, students and the villagers.

Manipur governor summons assembly

Manipur Governor La Ganesan has summoned the 3rd session of the twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly (MLA) on February 2 at the Assembly hall in Imphal.

MLA Secretary K Meghajit Singh issued an order in this regard on Thursday.

Ganesan summoned the state assembly in exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (1) of Article 174 of the constitution of India.
