Manipur Governor attends IIIT Senapati convocation ceremony, lauds its progress

IMPHAL — Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday highlighted the significant role of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur in making the state a preferred destination for information technology-related manpower and industry.
Addressing the third convocation programme of IIIT Senapati at its city campus in Mantripukhri, Imphal, the governor lauded the institute for its initiatives, including introduction of new BTech programmes specialising in Artificial Intelligence and the incorporation of PhD programmes.
She expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure of the institute, citing standardised smart classrooms, well-equipped laboratories or Computer Science and Electronics Communication and well maintained campus, as well as lauded the efforts to accommodate diverse student bodies, including those from marginalised communities.
The governor also congratulated the gold medallists and all the graduating studetns for their remarkable achievements, while lauding the dedication of the faculty in shaping the students’ academic journey.
During the convocation ceremony, gold medals were awarded to two meritorious students, while a total of 55 students were awarded degrees, out of which 34 were awarded B Tech degrees in Computer Science & Engineering, and 21 students B Tech degrees in Electronics & Communication Engineering. A total of 579 students are studying in IIIT Manipur.
Uikey also expressed happiness over the IIIT Manipur taking the initiative to ensure a fair representation of female students in the institute with the number increasing from just four (pursuing engineering course) in 2022 to 59 today.
Dr Sukhi Oraon, Chairperson of Board of Governors, IIIT Senapati, presided over the event, while Director of IIIT Senapati, Prof Krishnan Baskar, presented the annual report.
