IMPHAL — After partially lifting the internet ban in Manipur, the state government on Monday announced to whitelist mobile numbers of main officials of the state including Governor, Chief Minister, Assembly speaker, Chief Justice, cabinet ministers, Advocate General, state security advisor, DGP, SPs, etc.
The Commissioner (Home) of government of Manipur issued an order in this regard in pursuance of the High Court of Manipur’s order recently.
The second phase whitelisting of mobile numbers include the officers/officials recommended by Governor’s secretariat, Chief Minister’s secretariat, state assembly secretariat and High Court of Manipur.
It also include all administrative secretaries, all vice chancellors of universities in Manipur, all special secretaries, additional secretaries, DCs, joint secretaries, head of departments and additional deputy commissioners, directors and medical superintendents (RIMS/JNIMS), commandant level officers of security agencies recommended by Army/Assam Rifles, staffs officers and PS to Chief Secretary, members of the expert committee and 5 member each from all telecom service providers.
On June 27, the Manipur government partially lifted the internet ban in the strife-torn state by conditionally allowing broadband service while keeping the ban on mobile internet following a government order on July 25.
The state government said that the internet ban was being partially lifted in view of problems faced by people as it has affected offices, educational institutions, health facilities, booking of cooking gas, and other online-based citizen-centric services.
Manipur had been witnessing ethnic violence in the first week of May, in which around 160 people were killed and nearly 50,000 people were displaced besides burning many villages.
