Manipur Covid-19: Death toll rises to three; total lockdown extended till August 6

Imphal, July 30 (EMN): A day after Manipur reported first Covid-19 death, two more patients died at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in Imphal on July 30, taking the death toll in the state to three.

The first death was also from RIMS Covid ward.

The second death was reported at around 2.30 am while the third case at around 10 am on Thursday, sources said. Both the cases were reported to have history of kidney complications. The second case was a 48-year-old male, a resident of Leimakhong, while the third case was a 47-year-old male from Langol.

The state authority has extended the complete lockdown in the entire state for another seven days starting July 31 till August 6. The complete lockdown came into force from July 23 afternoon (2 pm) after the report of detecting infection of Covid 19 amongst a few people who have had no history of travel outside the state.

State Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu issued an order in this regard on Thursday.

The activities which were permitted during the complete lockdown were also announced. As per the order, locally based retails shops dealing with essential commodities like groceries for daily use, vegetables, fruits, milk booths, poultry meat and fish will be opened in all districts from 6 am to 10 am on all days except Sundays. No vehicles will be allowed to move, it said.

According to the order, the permitted activities during the lockdown include essential services, cargo/goods movement, health related activities, public utilities, agriculture and related activities, fisheries, animal husbandry, finance/social sector, print and electronic media, courier services, food processing units, bottled water manufacturing and distribution, construction activities, private security services, private vehicles for emergency purposes, all offices of central and state government dealing with essential services, all treasury offices.
