Manipur CM vows to ‘continue meeting the public’

Imphal, Jan. 10 (EMN):Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh met around 600 people besides receiving 180 complaints during the first Hill Leaders’ Day in Imphal on Wed.
Biren Singh had been meeting public leaders on two occasions namely ‘hill leaders day’ on the 10th day of every month and Meeyamgi Numit (‘people’s day’) on every 15th day since the BJP-led coalition government came to power in March 2017.
Since then, he has been meeting with the public ‘to understand their actual grievances.’
On Wed. too he met with public leaders from th hill districts at the Durbar Hall of the chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal.
Speaking to media after meeting with the public, Chief Minister Biren, who is also a former journalist, said that he had been able to ‘identify the actual grievances of the masses.’
“This has helped the government in resolving the problems faced by the people and fulfil their needs up to a large extent,” he said.“Formulation of different social security schemes and its subsequent implementation were also the outcomes of these two days.”
Stating that Hill Leaders’ Day and Meeyamgi Numit had reduced the gap between the people and the government, he vowed to continue meeting with the public durng these two days this year as well.
Regarding the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March this year, Singh said that although ‘official confirmation’ is yet to be received, Modi’s visit to the state was ‘almost certain’ as the BJP-led state government’s first anniversary celebration falls on March 15.
Responding to a query, Singh said also that the state’s budget for the fiscal 2018-19 would give thrust to key areas like employment through skill development, connectivity (including internet and media, road, railways and air services), education, health, fisheries, agriculture and horticulture etc.
After hearing the grievances of a group of organic farmers from Singda, he directed officials to do the needful to construct a market shed at the village as soon as possible.
Acting on a request of orange growers from a village in Ukhrul district, he instructed the officials of the Horticulture department also to take steps for large-scale orange production and detect possible plant diseases.
