Imphal, March 11 (EMN):
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh tendered his resignation to Governor La Ganesan at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Friday, a day after his party, BJP, crossed the magic mark by winning 32 seats in the 60-member assembly.

He was accompanied by three former ministers Vungzagin Valte, Letpao Haokip and Th Satyabrata, all re-elected from Thanlon, Tengnoupal and Yaiskul assembly constituencies in the recently concluded assembly elections.

The governor had asked Biren during the meeting to be the caretaker Chief Minister of the state till a permanent arrangement is made.

The State Cabinet on Friday resolved that the council of ministers tender resignation to the governor, as the election results had been announced.

The Cabinet expressed satisfaction in serving the people under the Governor and also thanked the Election Commission of India and its functionaries for the successful conduct of the general election in the state. It also thanked all the functionaries, officials and employees of the state government for their hard work and dedication in the conduct of the election.

The State Cabinet also expressed its gratitude to the Central leadership for their unwavering support and guidance to the state government in ensuring smooth and efficient implementation of government programmes and schemes for inclusive development in Manipur and for the welfare of its people.

The Cabinet took note of the various violent incidents reported during the election process and strongly condemned it. It also condoled the unfortunate death of individuals in the election-related incidents.

It went on to express its gratitude to the people of Manipur for having placed their trust and confidence in the vision of the BJP-led government in Manipur during the past five years.

On Thursday, the ruling BJP retained power in Manipur by securing 32 seats, while the opposition Congress was reduced to just five seats.

The National People’s Party won seven seats; Janata Dal(United) six, Naga People’s Front five and Kuki People’s Alliance two. Three seats were bagged by Independent candidates.

Later speaking to media, Biren Singh said that BJP will form the government and will continue to maintain the ‘coalition dharam’.

The current term state assembly term will end on March 19.
