Manipur CM announces INR 500 monthly assistance for PwDs

Imphal, Sep. 17 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday announced INR 500 monthly allowance for Persons with Disability (PwD) having a disability of 60 to 80% starting from next month in celebration of the Prime Minister’s 72nd birthday.

Singh made the announcement during a “Free distribution camp of aids and assistive devices to Divyangjan” under the assistance to disabled persons for purchase/fitting of aids/appliances assistance to disabled persons for purchase/fitting of aids/appliances scheme of Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Ningombam village in Imphal West district.

Elaborating that the prime minister believes in an equal society, he said “we require collective efforts for inclusive growth by creating trust, confidence amongst us all without stopping our struggle.

“The state under the present government has made much progress during the last five or so years”, he said.

“The government is working with dedication, hard-work, sincerity, transparency, devotion and sacrifice.

Today, India is also making progress in all sectors under the able and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he added.

During the day’s function, various aids and assistive devices including tricycles, wheelchairs, teaching and learning materials, etc were distributed to PwDs under the AIDP scheme.

It may be noted that the “Chief Minister gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang,” a state welfare scheme launched in December 2017, has already provided INR 1,500 per month to PwDs having a disability of 80% or more.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, D.r RK Ranjan Singh, Works and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh also attended the function. The Chief Minister also planted tree saplings as part of the celebration.
