MAM Football Trophy: Gilgal, Salaksalaker enter semi finals
DIMAPUR — Salaksalaker defeated Rebels FC 5-3 via penalty shootout in the first quarter-final match of the ongoing 50th edition of Mongsen Ait Marok (MAM) Football Trophy played at Longjang, Mokokchung, on Tuesday.
In the regulated 60-minute play and extra time, both teams were locked in a 2-2 draw, leading to the penalty shootout.
In the second quarter-final match, Gilgal edged past Mongsen Ait Club by a solitary goal to secure a semi-final berth.
Earlier, in the first league match of the day, Gilgail FC outgunned crowd favorite Salaksalaker 5-1. Sentinungsang of Gilgail scored a hat trick by netting two goals in the first half and another one in the second half.
His teammates Ayenmongba and Winamthiu added a goal each. Salaksalaker managed to score only a single goal.
In other league matches, Omega and Lumedang were tied 2-2; Chargers FC trounced Yimsen Youth Club 8-0; Rebels FC beat Khanimu Citizens Club 1-0; Gilgal FC drubbed Lametong 10-1; Lomuden defeated Aningchen 4-0 and Chargers FC beat Yimsen Youth Club-A 1-0.
The tournament, organised by the Mongsen Ait Club (MAC), carries a cash prize of INR 1 lakh and trophy for the champions, besides another INR 60,000 for both team and individual prizes.
