LVC disputes existence of Aqahuto, protests foundation stone laying
DIMAPUR — The Lamhai Village Council (LVC) has raised concerns regarding the recent laying of a foundation stone by Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi on August 9 and called for immediate action to address the matter and prevent potential tension and disruptions.
Mentioning the foundation stone laid by Zhimomi “for the establishment of a so-called Aqahuto EAC HQ,” the LVC said in a press release that there is no such area as Aqahuto under the jurisdiction of Lamhai village where the foundation stone was “quietly laid with the intention best known to them”.
Claiming that there is not a single Sumi-recognised village in that area, the LVC said that it is unbelievable to think that there is a need for an EAC headquarters in that area.
“The Lamhai Village Council wants to know whether government approval or cabinet decision was taken for the creation of such a controversial EAC headquarters. if such a decision was not taken, whether it is legal to establish an EAC headquarters at the whims and fancies of a cabinet minister,” it said.
Further, the council demanded immediate and necessary action be taken against the erring minister at whose behest and interest the foundation stone was laid and that the government dismantle the provoking foundation stone to avoid tension and a law and order situation.
“Failure to do so, we shall be compelled to resort to all means of action to get justice for the same,” it said.
