DIMAPUR — The Lamhai People’s Organisation (LPO) representing the five villages of Lamhai expressed shock to learn that a foundation stone at Lamhai land was inaugurated by Minister for Public Health Engineering Department and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi on August 9 for the establishment of Aqahuto EAC headquarters.

In a press release, the LPO claimed that it was laid “without any knowledge of the landowner village” and added that the traditional boundary of Lamhai village extends till the Dhansiri river bordering Chümoukedima and as such, if such an EAC headquarters is necessary, then Lamhai village should be the first to be consulted.

Noting that besides Kiyevi village there is not a single government-recognised village in this area, and therefore, the need to have an EAC headquarters does not arise, it condemned “the wisdom of the government in taking such a controversial decision without proper consultations with the stakeholders and creating confusions in the minds of the peace-loving people of Lamhai village”.

The LPO further demanded that the foundation stone be removed immediately so that the peaceful atmosphere in the area is not disturbed.
