Officials of Lotha Students’ Union are seen at LSU Martyrs Park on the occasion of black day programme in Wokha town on April 14.
DIMAPUR — The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) observed ‘black day’ on Friday at LSU Martyr’s Park in Wokha town in memorial of Thungkhomo Ezung and Chumdamo Tungoe, who laid down their lives during a silent protest in Wokha town on April 14, 1977.

An update from LSU stated that Thungkhomo Ezung and Chumdamo Tungoe were shot dead by Nagaland Police in Wokha town on April 14, 1977, during a silent procession organised by the LSU in protest against the inhumane and barbaric act meted to the then SDO (Civil), Ngurkhuma Mizo, by the Assam Police and Assam Forest Guards while protecting the legal rights for a land dispute at Ralan area under Wokha district.

It added that various institutions under the jurisdiction of LSU also observed the ‘black day’ by holding silent prayer during the morning assemblies and wearing black ribbon badge.

During a short event, LSU officials also observed a minute of silent prayer followed with brief talk in honour of the two martyrs by LSU president, Lirhonthung E Kithan. Later, LSU officials visited the burial site of Thungkhomo Ezung and Chumdamo Tungoe and also visited the family members.
