DIMAPUR, JUNE 8: Lotha Hoho Wokha and Rengma Hoho Tseminyu have temporarily suspended their proposed NH-2 bandh on the assurance of the Commissioner & Secretary W&H and National Highways Authorities of Nagaland that the works on the NH-2 Tseminyu and Wokha sectors would be started at the earliest date. The Hohos however said, the agitation will resume if the NHAN fails to fulfill its assurance.

Lotha Hoho Wokha Chairman Mhao Humtsoe and Rengma Hoho President Kenyuseng Tep in a joint statement said, the Hohos would expect that the sanction for the work in question be obtained within a period of 30 days, and copies of the sanction order be made available to the Hohos, as assured during the Tseminyu meeting. “Earlier, the Hohos have resolved not to respond to any call on the matter, except by way of negotiation at Tseminyu or Wokha. Accordingly, the Hohos did not respond to the call, by the Minister, in charge of NH; but the NHAN authorities have come to Tseminyyu on June 7 and deliberated on the issue.”

“Both the Commissioner & Secretary and the Chief Engineer have explained the various aspects and verbally assured the Hohos that the work would be taken up on top priority. But because of numerous assurances, without practical response, in the past, the Hoho members refused to accept any verbal assurance.”

The meeting remained inconclusive and Commissioner & Secretary had requested the Hohos to allow him to go back to office at Kohima to enable him to give an official written assurance to which the Hohos had consented. Accordingly, the written assurance was transmitted to the Hohos through the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha and the Addl Deputy Commissioner, Tseminyu on June 8.
It may be mentioned that the Hohos’ demand has, since the first memorandum submitted in May 2015, been for widening works of the NH-2, covering Tseminyu and Wokha sectors, from 40 km to Doyang Bridge.

“But the work which was subjudiced is from 40 km to 72 km only. Hence, unless the works covering the entire sectors are taken up the agitation will resume till the works covering the entire stretch are taken up.
