Longleng-Tizit road stretch entrusted to NHIDCL
DIMAPUR— The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has been entrusted to construct the road stretch from Longleng to Tizit and Mon to Tizit, along the NH-702.
This was informed by Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari to Nagaland Minister of Health and Family Welfare P Paiwang Konyak in a letter dated June 6.
“In this regard, it is to inform you that MoRTH vide Gazette of India: Extraordinary, Notification No. S.O.2326 (E) dated 26.05.2023 has entrusted the stretch from Longleng to Tizit to NHIDCL which also includes the Mon to Tizit Road and accordingly process of taking over the road assessment of the requirement of the maintenance for the road is being initiated by NHIDCL,” the letter read.
It came after the Health minister expressed the need to entrust the maintenance work of the National Highway 702 Mon-Tizit road under Mon district, early.
Gadkari also assured that the NHIDCL would put in utmost effort to minimise inconveniences to the people.
In another update, he said the Ministry has started the two-lane highway on the Akhegwo-Jessami section along the National Highway 202.
“This particular stretch spans a total length of 42.44 kilometers and will incorporate hard shoulders as part of Package-I. The primary objective of this project is to enhance seamless connectivity between Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram, ultimately stimulating economic activities within the region,” wrote Gadkari.
It may be recalled that in 2021, the managing director of NHIDCL had written to the chief secretary of Nagaland, apprising that it would withdraw all further activities within the 42 km stretch from Akhegwo-Akash Bridge (Jessami) along the NH-202, over setting up of illegal structures through land encroachment by local residents to claim land compensation.
The MD in the letter also informed that the corporation had decided not to move the Ministry for approval of the project till the illegal structures were removed.
