Dimapur, Jan. 27 (EMN): As part of the ‘National Girl Child Day,’ Longleng district administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK)– district level centre for women, observed a week-long ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign’ by organising several activities from January 21 to the 26th.
The main aim of the week-long campaign was to spread awareness on issues of inequalities faced by girls in the country, to empower girls and enlighten everyone about the rights of a girl child, stated a DIPR report.
The campaign began with the launch of a digital campaign for BBBP and BBBP challenge (video) to re-enroll girls for education held in the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office. It was followed with social media campaign, celebration of girl child birth at District Hospital, distribution of safety kits to Asha and Anganwadi workers, celebration of national girl child-cum-award ceremony for best school monitoring committee and best NGO in recognition of their inputs in education, distribution of IEC material, poster and signature campaign.
A special programme for girl students who could not pay their fees due to pandemic, wherein 12 girl students fees were sponsored by district administration and DTF BBBP Longleng, and tournaments on chess, carrom and badminton) for girls were organised during the campaign.
It informed that a total of 38 girls participated in the tournament. In badminton, the first position was won by Moimei and Theila Phom. In chess, the first position was won by Yimshet Phom and in carrom, the first position was won by Moidan Phom. The winners were awarded with medals, cash prizes and certificates.
