Dimapur, May 15

A local organization has asked the Dimapur district administration to name a road in Dimapur after a person stated to have contributed to the wellbeing of the community. The administration had recently issued a call for applications for either claim or reject the Dimapur District planning & Development Board’s proposal to name after prominent citizens of the local community a number of roads and streets in the town’s center.
The Lotha Hoho of Dimapur issued a press release on Friday, May 15, requesting that the administration rename a road in the town after one late Sanchisao Lotha of Duncan Bosti who the organization said “merits the criteria in question and deserves naming of the above mentioned stretch of road in his memory”.
In May 15, the Dimapur administration had perused applications seeking naming a number of roads after prominent personalities in Dimapur district and as per the recommendation of the District Planning & Development Board.
The administration had issued the names of the proposed roads and locations. The names are as follows: Dhobi Nallah Traffic point to PWD-Forest Junction as Sanchisao Lotha Road; PWD-Forest Junction to DC Court Junction as T Matong Longkumer Road; Burma Camp Junction via Veterinary Office to DMC Slaughter House as Gobindra Paira Road; Army Supply Road Junction to Kalibari as Manik Bhattacharjee Road.
The deputy commissioner of Dimapur had informed that a public notice had been given to the public of the area for claims or objections if any, to be submitted within 30 days from the date of publication of this notice.
The organization stated in the press release that the Nagaland government’s initiative to name streets, roads and institutions after prominent Naga personalities across the state was ‘a welcome step’.
“In essence, ‘heritage’ is of the past to the future and the inheritance of the present. Therefore, such landmark naming in memory/honour of deserving prominent personalities of the past, by the present generation is a gift of the present to the future when the present becomes the past,” the organization stated in the press release issued by its leadership.
“But proper care in the process of demarcation or naming is imperative in certain areas (with special reference to Dimapur city and vicinity) in order to avoid objection or resentment in any form, from respective residents or communities,” the Lotha Hoho stated.
In this regard, the Lotha Hoho of Dimapur has stated that the appeal for naming the section of road from the PWD junction to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Dimapur should be named in memory of late Sanchisao Lotha of Duncan Bosti. This request was forwarded to the government, “but is yet to see a final touch even after so many years in waiting,” the organization stated.
“Late Sanchisao Lotha, whose credentials and contributions made during his lifetime, as also published in the local media is self explanatory.
Though he is no more, late Sanchisao of Duncan Bosti, Dimapur is fondly remembered by the people for his voluntary services in the social circle and has a prominent spread at Duncan,” the community organization stated.
The Lotha Hoho of Dimapur has requested the authorities in concern and the government to look into the matter ‘genuinely and initiate favorable action as late Sanchisao Lotha merits the criteria in question and deserves naming of the above mentioned stretch of road in his memory’.
