DIMAPUR — The Lotha Lower Range Students’ Union (LLRSU) has demanded a 2% job reservation for the backward Bhandari Sub-Division in Wokha, describing it as “the most backward division in the state today”.

In a press release, it reminded that the state government, by a notification in 1983, recognised the division as economically and developmentally backward, and that the status continues to this day.

It mentioned that four villages under Bhandari do not have a primary school to this day. There are a total of 46 government officers in the entire sub-division. Additionally, there are some villages with no government servants at all.

Furthermore, it was stated that the entire sub-division, which consists of more than 85 recognised villages and covers an area of about 115 km along the border, does not have a single private or government college, despite a population of more than 52,000.

‘Thus, in light of the aforementioned factual development, economic, educational and employment conditions and positions, the Lotha Lower Range Students’ Union strongly demands consideration and the grant of a 2% job reservation at the earliest,’ read the release, adding that the LLRSU will not rest until this genuine demand is met by the state government.
