Eastern Mirror: Who or what inspired you to want to become a make-up artist?
Lomi Shikhu: Honestly, I never thought I would become a Make-Up artist. But it was one summer, when I was watching Fashion TV and I saw how these Hair and Make-Up artists were busy working on the models, that’s when I realized that I wanted to be one of them and that’s how it all started. That is where I got my inspiration.

EM: What was your first job as a make-up artist?
LS: I did an Indian Bridal on the first job as a Make-Up artist.

EM: What do you love most about your job?
LS: Giving a makeover is one of the best thing I love about my job.

EM: How did your family react when you decided to opt for this career?
LS: My family is the best. My parents and my siblings have always been very supportive of whatever I did. And I am really very grateful that they never stopped me from pursuing this line of career, they believe in me.

EM: What is your favorite look for summer?
LS: Almost every summer, there is something new to look forward to. But currently, I am loving this fresh coral, peachy, nude pink lip colors and little shimmery eye shadows in light olive green, sea blue, warm brown, colors which usually compliments our eye shape and skin tone. Experimenting with hair colors is also something I like during summer, but please consult your stylist before getting it done. You don’t want to end up damaging your hair or getting a color which doesn’t suit you, right?

EM: What is the one beauty product that every woman cannot leave home without?
LS: Ah! We women can’t leave home without so many things. But if I had to name one, it has to be waterproof mascara; especially since rainy season and summer is setting in. Tons of mascara and you are good to go anywhere……anytime.

EM: What has been the biggest challenge of your career?
LS: Challenges comes in many ways on daily basis. But so far, the biggest challenge I had was starting my own business. With no sponsors or support from anyone except my parents who are government servants, I had to invest all their income to open my salon in order to start this business. Without their help and support, I would have never been able to do this.

EM: How would you describe your signature look?
LS: My signature look right now is the slightly winged lined eye with lots of mascara on upper and bottom lashes, but no Kajal. And matte pink lip color or for evening look, a deep plum or burgundy lip color over the same eyes, but with a dash of shimmer on the eyes.

EM: What are some common beauty mistakes that women make?
LS: The most common mistake that women make is wearing red lip color which does not suit their skin tone and also if they have problematic skin like breakouts or blemishes. And also wearing too much kajal on the eyes. It smudges and makes your eyes look worn out, tired and dirty.

EM: What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?
LS: We should always make sure that we clean our face before going to bed, in order to have a glowing, healthy skin every day. Always wear a sun block before applying your foundation. Choose the right shade of foundation for your skin; make sure it is almost the same tone as your natural skin color. It should not make your skin lighter or darker then its natural tone.
Always clean your eyebrows, you can use an eyebrow brush or use an old mascara wand to brush your brows, use a gel or liquid waterproof liner, waterproof mascara and invest in a good lipstick or lip-gloss. Remember, lip-gloss looks better in most cases, but lipstick lasts longer, so know your environment and choose wisely what to wear.
