DIMAPUR — Advisor of School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, on Saturday attributed the women as forerunners in preservation of culture.

Speaking at the launch of logo and thanksgiving programme of the Lidi Kro-u Society, Kohima, on receiving the Governor’s Award in Music 2024, Dr. Yhome said women have helped uphold the culture by continuing cultural practices at home and promoting it by observing traditional days in the offices, an update from the Society stated.

He called on the Society to collaborate and create a cultural centre where the younger generation could come and learn traditional practices, songs and the various agricultural practices. He further expressed hope that the Society would carry forward its good work and lead the way for the Nagas to preserve and safeguard their culture.

The chairman of Kohima Village Council, Helievio Solo, while congratulating the Society said ‘our culture, traditions and folklores defines our identity.’ He expressed gratitude to the Society for bridging the gap between the older and younger generations by passing down the cultural knowledge.

The chairman further called on the Society to explore ways to promote the folk tunes and folk songs.

During the programme, Neisakuonuo Solo, president of Lidi Kro-u Society, shared details of the works undertaken by the Society since its inception, while the general secretary, Kelhoulenuo Keyho, delivered the vote of thanks.

Lidi Kro-u Society, Kohima recently received the Governor’s Award for its contribution in the field of music during the 78th Independence Day 2024.
