Dimapur, June 8 (EMN): With an objective to create public awareness on the urgent issue of environmental pollution and global warming, Livingstone Foundation International organised a bicycle rally on June 8 on the theme ‘Living sustainably in harmony with nature.’

An update from the institute stated that around 36 cyclists from Grades 6 to 12 of LFI started from the school main gate at Thahekhu and proceeded towards Clock Tower and Nyamo Lotha Road and finally culminated at Dhobinala Junction.

The bicycle rally was flagged off by Temsunochet Changkija, additional deputy commissioner of police (Traffic), Dimapur.

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, Changkija expressed gratitude to the school administration for organising such a novel initiative in raising awareness and concern on pertinent global environmental issues among the public and students in particular. He expressed happiness that as a police officer, it was motivating to witness the discipline of the LFI students saying, without proper discipline one cannot achieve anything great in life.

He further called upon the students and mentors to make a collaborative effort in ensuring a sustainable and harmonious relationship with nature.

The chairman of Livingstone Foundation International, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, has expressed gratitude to the traffic department for ensuring safer roads for all motorists as well as pedestrians and for rendering their valuable time and resources for the success of the bicycle rally. He wished that more people including school and college students start using bicycles to commute as it would contribute in lowering the harmful effects of global warming due to vehicular pollution and also improving their overall health.

He further expressed optimism that the bicycle rally would go a long way in inculcating a positive mindset among the public towards the menace of environmental pollution and the physical and mental health benefits of people through cycling.
