Dimapur, April 18 (EMN): The department of History, Livingstone Foundation International College celebrated World Heritage Day on Monday on the theme “Heritage and climate”.

C Narola Ao, Vice Principal, Pranabananda Women’s College attended the programme as special guest. She said World Heritage Day is celebrated to spread awareness of the rich cultural diversity and importance of preserving ancient heritage, an update from the college stated.

“Naga art and culture is closely associated with socio-religious rituals, customs and practices. In the ethnographic heritage of the traditional Naga society one can witness abundance of songs, oral traditions and practices and festivals.

“The passion for beauty and artistic work which inspired the Nagas to give artistic touch to almost each and everything surrounding them, appeared in their everyday life. The intangible components associated with ferocious acts like head hunting have their own aesthetic as well as creative value which has contributed a lot in conceptualising the Naga identity,” read the statement.

It stated that Kisama is the permanent official heritage village of Nagaland. The purpose of this village is to serve as a “window to Nagaland”, to provide a preview of the entire state of Nagaland.

“ It aims to protect and preserve all ethnic cultural heritages. It focuses on bringing back the traditions that are rapidly disappearing. Nagaland can be a Heritage State of the world if all the districts maintain Heritage sites for preservation of our rich cultural heritage. Protecting our heritage, values and traditions is impossible through a single individual or group. Community participation and awareness can change things for the better and help our rich and varied culture,” it read.
