Now past the point where he was admittedly close to death, frontman Lemmy Kilmister says a Grammy nomination for Motorhead‘s ‘Heartbreaker’ song validates his long journey back from a series of health-related setbacks.
“It’s always nice to stick your middle finger up and say, ‘Ha ha, you bastards, six months to live eh?’,” Lemmy recently said on ‘One on One With Mitch Lafon.’‘Heartbreaker’ was a standout cut on Motorhead’s 2013 album, ‘Aftershock.’ Touring behind the record was delayed, however, when Lemmy fell ill. He returned to the stage last year, and has resumed a busy schedule ever since. In fact, Motorhead are already working on a follow-up to ‘Aftershock,’ and Lemmy even took a guest turn as a disc jockey on the BBC.
“I don’t see why you should stop when it gives you so much pleasure,” Lemmy told Lafon. You can listen to the interview below.
‘Heartbreaker’ was nominated for Best Metal Performance, sharing the category with Anthrax, Mastodon, Slipknot and Tenacious D. Motorhead previously claimed a Best Metal Performance Grammy for a cover of Metallica‘s ‘Whiplash’ back in 2005. The 57th annual Grammy Awards are set for 8PM ET Feb. 8 on CBS.
