Mokokchung, Nov. 24 (EMN): Parliamentary Secretary of Agriculture, YM Yollow has inaugurated the Mongchen-Milak Link Road at Achula Lenden on November 24 in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary of IT&C and DAN, Dr. Longriniken as the guest of honour.
The parliamentary secretaries were accompanied by a host of government officials, NPF party workers, village elders from the neighbouring villages and others.
The Mongchen-Milak Link Road, which is a little more than 10 kilometers in length leading from Mongchen to Milak River, was constructed with contributions from the villagers themselves and also with contributions from the local MLA, parliamentary secretary Dr. Longniken who donated his JCP (excavator) and also an initial sum of Rs 1 lakh to start the work.
At a public meeting held at the community hall after the inauguration programme, Yollow assured to place Mongchen village in the department’s programmes in the days to come. Yolow also urged the villagers to work hard, develop the village forest and field area so that the village can be more developed in the years to come.
Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Longriniken, while speaking at the programme, stated that two of his dreams had come true with the inauguration of the Mongchen-Milak Link Road. Longriniken recalled that right after his election as the MLA from 29th Jangpetkong A/C in 2013, he had shared his dreams with the constituency villagers of making the Jangpetkong range as a tourist destination, turn the range into economic zone, and to preserve the wildlife in the Milk river and forest areas. He has also congratulated the Mongchen villagers for constructing the link road out of their own pocket without the help of any government agencies and asserted that the link road would uplift the economy of the village.
Also speaking at the programme, the Additional Director of Agriculture, Imtitemjen, praised the Mongchen villagers for setting the ‘best example’ of self-reliance not only for the Aos but also for the Nagas.
Others who spoke at the programme included the NPF Mokokchung Division vice president, L Yanger Ao. The Mongchen village council chairman welcomed the guests and invitees, while the convener of the construction committee, Temsukaba Longkumer delivered a short profile of the project.
Mongchen, which is located in the Jangpetkong range, is a small village but with high number of educated persons, government officers and well-known personalities. With the successful completion of the Mongchen-Milak Link Road, the village has achieved another milestone which is expected to boost the economy of the village.
After the inauguration of the road, the parliamentary secretaries and their entourage were taken for a tour of the famed Jena and Etiben Mongchen, which is a tourist spot and were given time to relish the grandeur of the natural beauty and a treat to the legendary love story of the Ao Romeo & Juliet story which was recited by Dr. Arenla T Mollier.
