Dimapur, May 16 (EMN): No government in the world can cater to all the needs and livelihood problems of their own countries or states, including in Nagaland, and so the leaders should prepare platforms for the educated youth, said Jacob Zhimomi, Minister of PHED, on Monday.

He was speaking during the inaugural function of the new office building of Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Niuland, organised by the Department of School Education, Dimapur.

Asserting that no Naga is landless and “a Naga who does not have land is not a Naga”, he said ‘we have to capitalise on our lands and exploit our natural resources for the welfare of the people’.

He stated that the government cannot employ everyone who is qualified but “we have to create avenues and for that we have to impart good education to our children”. He added that with ‘good degrees, we can become progressive farmers, which is a respectable job’.

The minister urged the education department to stress on providing proper direction and guidance to the children so that students can understand the subject matter and not just rote memorise.

He also advised the department to impart moral education to the younger generation, saying that the society will be in chaos if they are morally not good.

Speaking about the SDEO office building project, he said the state government had provided the asset for everyone, and so “let us use it in a very gainful manner and not make it a liability, but take care of the infrastructure provided by the government”.

‘We are stepping in the path of progress so we all need to have patience; at the same time, we cannot compromise the education system in the state’ he said, while urging the department to work together and guide the students in the right direction.

He assured that, with the creation of Niuland district, the education sector is going to be one of the fundamental priorities for the state government and “it shall be my endeavour to see that good infrastructure and adequate facilities are being provided in the district”.

The new office building was inaugurated in the presence of Niuland Deputy Commissioner, Ajit Kumar Verma, SDEO Bohovi Sema, and other officers.
