KOHIMA— Vehicular movement on the two-lane Kohima-Jessami of NH-29 has been affected since the past three days following a landslide near Thenucho’s farm area at Kikruma village in Phek district.
Chairman of Kikruma Village Council, Thipuzhoyo Thira, told Eastern Mirror that movement of vehicles was brought to a complete halt on Monday due to the landslide, which also damaged a truck loaded with construction materials.
Many vehicles were diverted towards Zuketsa road and Chetheba road, Thira said.
He said after the NHIDCL terminated the agreement of the construction contractor resulting in “suspension” of works of the two-lane road, NHIDCL had not bothered to regularly deploy machineries at the affected site for road clearance and maintenance works, causing inconveniences and hardships to the public and commuters.
Meanwhile, MLA representing 16 – Pfutsero assembly constituency, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, also inspected the affected site and interacted with the Deputy General Manager of NHIDCL and other officials.
According to the MLA, following the landslide that occurred on July 1, around 200 vehicles including all commercial vehicles heading to Pfutsero, Phek, Meluri, Kiphire and Pungro were stranded.
Mero requested the authority for timely and swift action to clear the road blockage.
