Kohima, Sep. 18 (EMN): Advisor for School Education, KT Sukhalu on Saturday urged the community to come forward and support government schools for better performance, saying that lack of it has affected the commitment of teachers.
He was addressing the felicitation programme held in honour of National Teacher Awardee 2021, head teacher of GMS Jakhama Swedesunuo Zao held at the Directorate of School Education.
The advisor pointed out that community support to schools and teachers is ‘very good’ in Kohima and Phek districts, and Mokokchung district as well. He, however, lamented that it is lacking in the remaining districts.
‘I want the community to support my teachers and want the community to ensure that the school has the support of the community; it will definitely bring results,’ he said.
Sukhalu further maintained that the private schools were faring well in terms of enrolment and academic performances because they ensure that students study and attend classes with full commitment.
‘The government’s commitment is that each and every town and village should have school so that no child is deprived of education,’ he shared.
He called on the people of the state to support the school and teachers to ensure that they are comfortable and recommit themselves and sincerely execute their service. He added that this act will ensure better performance of teachers and the government schools.
Stating that Zao’s achievement should be an inspiration for other teachers, he urged the department to work out modalities, so that the national awardee can travel and inspire others. He said the tours would encourage more teachers to rededicate their services to the state, schools and children.
The advisor feted the lone recipient from the state for setting the benchmark and exuded hope that others would emulate the same.
He stated that there are too many teachers in government schools and at the same time facing less enrolment trend. In this regard, he maintained that parents and students should be encouraged and informed that government schools are second to none.
Hailing Zao for being the recipient of National Teachers’ Award among lakhs of teachers in the country, he said it was an ‘exemplary achievement for the state’. He also urged the officers and staff of the department to be more regular and sincere.
Meanwhile, the Special Secretary, School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, congratulated Zao for receiving the award.
The official maintained that the challenges in the department are enormous but despite all odds, Zao was able to stand up with much dedication and commitment. She urged the teachers in the state to emulate, rededicate and be more sincere as schools are also set to reopen.
Zao acknowledged the School Education department for felicitating her and also her colleagues for their support.
She went on to acknowledge Principal Director of School Education, Shanavas C and Assistant Director Nellayapan B for taking personal interest in her school to make it a real learning ground for students, which she said stimulated the students’ cognitive response and enhanced the environment of learning.
Zao asserted that the award made her more committed and sincere towards her contribution to the education of children.
On the occasion, Sukhalu gave away National Teachers’ Award to Zao in the presence of department officials and family members of the awardee.
