KVK Zunheboto organises input distribution programme in Wokha
DIMAPUR — With an objective to improve the socio-economic condition of the farming communities, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Nagaland University in Zunheboto district organised an input distribution programme in Lotsu village under Sanis block and Renthan village under Bhandari block in Wokha district on September 1. The event was sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi.
An update from KVK Zunheboto stated that farmers were trained on poultry production and management by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, principal scientist and head of KVK Zunheboto, before distribution of poultry birds (Rainbow rooster). It stated that farmers could earn income within 3-4 month of rearing those birds.
It stated that farmers were also trained on Areca nut cultivation and management with special emphasis on different types of pest affecting the Areca nut/ other major crops by Wapangtoshi Longkumer, chief technical officer of plant protection.
Report stated that a total of 96 farmers from Lotsu village were provided with 2000 Areca nut, 1000 Rainbow rooster along with bio-pesticides and fertilizers, while a total 40 farmers from Renthan village were provided with 1000 Areca nut saplings and 500 Rainbow rooster poultry birds.
It further stated that the villagers would generate good source of income by sale of those birds within 3-4 months along with quality meat and eggs after 7-8 months.
