KVK Peren organises training on value addition of pineapple

DIMAPUR — As part of 100 days action plan, KVK Peren, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jalukie, organised a capacity-building programme on value addition of pineapple for self help groups (SHG) of Jalukie block cooperative farmer producer organisation (FPO) on Friday in Mhainamtsi village.

The sole objective of the training was to impart knowledge and hands-on experience on the value addition of pineapple.

The programme was chaired by Dr. L Babita Devi, CTO (Animal Science) and nodal officer of FPO.

During the technical session, Dr. Sima Chanu, SMS (Home Science), KVK-Dimapur, gave a brief introduction on the importance and marketing values of pineapple and the procedure for preparation of pineapple squash, juice, sauce and jam. She highlighted the advantage of availability of raw materials in hand as the major cost of processing goes into procuring raw materials.

She thoroughly explained in details about the selection of fruit, hygiene to be maintained during processing and care to be taken during packaging.

The technical session was followed by hands on demonstration on preparation of pineapple squash.

All the participants took part in preparing the juice with full enthusiasm.

Altogether, 36 participants from different SHG from Jalukie block FPO under KVK Peren along with KVK officials attended the training programme.
